Amid the call for drastic water-use reductions in the Southwest, Arizona agriculturists, scientists and water stakeholders will gather to explore future sustainability at the Water Resources Research Center annual conference.

As the Colorado River carved the Grand Canyon, it flushed away ancient groundwater. The discovery was made using a new method that determines the age of water based on how much of the radioactive element krypton-81 is present.

Sharon K. Collinge, a leader in global sustainability and an expert on landscape change and ecological processes, is joining the University of Arizona as director of the Arizona Institute for Resilient Environments and Societies, or AIRES, beginning August 1.

I am a senior majoring in Business Economics with a minor in Computer Science (graduating next week!)

The day kicked off with our keynote speaker, Cam Juarez, who is a Park ranger at Saguaro National Park (Tucson) and identifies as a Latino who is physically disabled. Cam runs the Next Generation Ranger program, which specifically recruits young people of color to get into environmental careers. Throughout the keynote session, he talked about how important the role of the Park and the people working there was for our community.

For the seventh year in a row, UArizona hurricane forecasters predict an above-average hurricane season, beginning June 1. Their forecast shows 14 named storms and seven hurricanes developing over the Atlantic Ocean.
