Bridging Sustainability and the Stars
From the soil under our feet to the stars in the sky, immersing ourselves in the wonders of the natural world inspires a profound sense of awe and reminds us of the infinite connections within and beyond our Earth.
The Mt. Lemmon SkyCenter is at the forefront of these experiences, bridging the mysteries of the stars with an appreciation for the environment! Embedded in the breathtaking Sonoran Desert landscape, the SkyCenter is more than an observatory – it’s a beacon of science education and outreach.
The SkyCenter is located at the Steward Observatory's "sky island" observation site, near the 9,157 foot summit of Mt. Lemmon. As part of the illustrious Steward Observatory and the Department of Astronomy, the SkyCenter operates under a permit from the U.S. Forest Service, ensuring that their exploration of the galaxy harmonizes with the natural world around us.
Join the SkyCenter for a variety of events and excursions throughout this spring – the perfect opportunity to experience the astronomical wonders of southwestern skies while being immersed in the unique environment of the sky islands!
Want to explore the stars and sustainability closer to home? The Steward Observatory is now celebrating over 100 years of all things astronomy by hosting a series of Public Evening Lectures, including two upcoming events focused on bridging astronomy and climate change. After all, we are all made of stardust!
