"I would definitely recommend watching the sunset every once in a while to feel relaxed and because Tucson has some of the most beautiful sunsets."

-Bianca Rodriguez, incoming first-year student

What are the top three things you’re most excited about in terms of starting at the University of Arizona?

My top three things I’m most excited about are going to be the football games, staying in the dorms and meeting new people. I feel like there’s lots to look forward to on both the academic and social side of things.

As someone who’s from Southern Arizona, what are your recommendations for other incoming students who are new to the area? Are there any places/activities/general advice that you’d like to share?

I would definitely recommend watching the sunset every once in a while to feel relaxed and because Tucson has some of the most beautiful sunsets. I’ll usually go to the top of a parking garage and watch from there.

How do you think growing up in the Sonoran Desert has shaped your relationship with the environment?

Growing up here has taught me to appreciate the beauty of the landscapes all around me. I’ve been more aware about conserving water due to the extreme temperatures and unique ecosystem. It’s helped me interact with the environment around me.

Why should students care about the environment, even if it isn't their major or area of study?

Students should care about the environment regardless of their major because it doesn’t just affect one person, it affects everyone. It’s essential for health and well being that we have clean air, water, stable climate, etc. Students should be environmentally conscious to help create a more sustainable future for generations after us.
