Position Title: Social Media Student Assistant
Reports to: Arizona Institute for Resilience Communications Lead
Hours/Week: 10-20 hours/week
Internship Date Range: Start date flexible, ideal availability beginning in January 2024
Location: University of Arizona main campus; remote work is possible

About the Resilience Internships and Student Experiences (RISE) Program

The RISE Program is hosted by the Arizona Institute for Resilience (AIR) and provides undergraduate and graduate students with paid internships related to resilient environments and societies. RISE internships give students experience in workplace settings with an opportunity to grow their interpersonal skills and prepare them for careers after graduation.

Responsibilities

Under the supervision of the AIR Communications Lead, the intern will:

  • Create and design engaging, on-brand social media content to post across platforms.
  • Be responsive to email communication.
  • Attend periodic social media marketing strategy meetings.
  • Meet weekly with a supervisor.
  • Peruse relevant partner and competitor social channels for content ideas and trends.
  • Engage with partners in planning and implementing social media collaboration posts.
  • Compile and monitor metrics across the platforms in use.
  • Develop and implement strategies to grow AIR’s social media presence.
  • Develop and implement strategies to engage diverse audiences.
  • Select and size photographs to illustrate news stories and events.
  • Liaise with other UArizona departments regarding promotional materials.
  • Graphics and video opportunities may be included if applicant has skills and interest.

The Intern will gain skills/experience in:

  • Developing and implementing professional social media communications strategies.
  • Marketing and outreach to diverse audiences via multimedia channels.
  • Developing engaging social media content on a variety of resilience-related topics.
  • Social media metrics collection and evaluation.
  • Communication, organization, and team reporting in a professional environment.

Qualifications

Education and Training

Required: Pursuing an undergraduate degree at the University of Arizona with a minimum of part-time enrollment.

Skills

  • Strong interest and expertise in communications and social media.
  • Proven experience with platforms including X, Instagram, Facebook, and LinkedIn.
  • Acute attention to detail and clear organization.
  • Strong, proven writing skills.
  • Familiarity with technology, online research, and social media platforms.
  • Interest in resilience, sustainability, conservation, science, and the environment.

Time Commitment

Work hours are flexible. Ideally, an intern will have availability between 9am – 5pm Arizona time to allow for direct engagement with the supervisor and other team members.

Compensation

$18.00/hour; 10-20 hours per week.
