RISE Internship: Records Office Technician at Archaeological Records Office at Arizona State Museum

Position Title: Records Office Technician 

Reports to: Tim Goddard 

Hours/Week: 10-20 

Internship Date Range: October 2025 – May 2026

About the Resilience Internships and Student Experiences (RISE) Program  

The RISE Program is hosted by the Arizona Institute for Resilience (AIR) and provides undergraduate and graduate students with paid internships related to resilient environments and societies. RISE internships give students workplace setting experience with an opportunity to grow their core skills and prepare them for careers after graduation.  

About the Archaeological Records Office:  

The Archaeological Records Office (ARO) is a division of the Arizona State Museum and is the official, and only, repository for archaeological survey records and site information generated during Arizona Antiquities Act blanket-permitted work conducted on state lands. ARO also accepts records from other land jurisdictions under Records Curation Agreements. 

Internship summary:  

As an intern at the Archaeological Records Office at the Arizona State Museum, you will play a vital role in preserving Arizona’s rich archaeological heritage. This internship offers hands-on experience in managing and organizing archaeological records, providing a unique opportunity to contribute to the stewardship of cultural resources. 

Through this internship, you will develop valuable skills in archival management, data organization, and the use of specialized software, while gaining insight into the ethical and professional standards of cultural resource management. Working alongside experienced archivists and archaeologists, you will learn the importance of attention to detail and collaboration in a professional museum environment. 

Internship description:  

Your primary responsibilities will include assisting with the cataloging, digitization, and organization of archaeological site records, field notes, photographs, and other documentation. You will work with the office’s database systems to ensure accurate data entry and help maintain the integrity of the museum’s extensive archives.  

Additionally, you may support the team in processing incoming records, responding to inquiries from researchers and the public, and preparing materials to comply with state and federal regulations, such as the Arizona Antiquities Act. Interacting with clients to answer questions and assist in research is also possible. 

Compensation:  

The intern will be hired and paid by the University of Arizona. The pay rate is $19/hour. 

Credit Requirements:  

The intern will be hired as a U of A student employee.  

  • For internships during the academic year: applicants must be active U of A students enrolled in at least 6 credits. 

Allowable Work Hours:  

  • During the semester, student employees are limited to 25 hours/week (20 hours/week for international students) across ALL U of A positions.
