About the Resilience Internships and Student Experiences (RISE) Program 

The RISE Program is hosted by the Arizona Institute for Resilience (AIR) and provides undergraduate and graduate students with paid internships related to resilient environments and societies. RISE internships give students experience in workplace settings with an opportunity to grow their interpersonal skills and prepare them for careers after graduation.

Internship summary: We are hoping to better understand our visitors and their experiences so that we can better serve diverse populations and hone our outreach to better reach audiences we are not yet serving. For this, gathering information and feedback from existing and potential visitors is critical.

We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented person to join our team as Program and Visitor Evaluation Intern. This position offers an excellent opportunity to gain hands-on experience in out-of-school educational evaluation and make a meaningful impact on the direction of Mission Garden programming and future visitor experiences.

Internship description: 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the development and implementation of visitor evaluation methods, including
  • working with supervisor to surveys, interviews, and observations.
  • Engage with visitors to gather feedback on their experiences, preferences, and needs.
  • Collect and analyze data to evaluate visitor satisfaction, learning outcomes, and overall
  • engagement with garden exhibits and programs.
  • Contribute to the creation of evaluation reports and presentations for Mission Garden
  • internal stakeholders (e.g., staff, board).
  • Support the maintenance of evaluation materials and ensure data collection procedures
  • comply with organizational standards and protocols around confidentiality.
  • Interact respectfully with visitors from many backgrounds.

Qualifications:

  • Currently enrolled in or recent graduate from a Bachelor’s, Master’s, or Doctoral program in
  • education, psychology, museum studies, or a related field.
  • Strong interest in visitor experience evaluation and education.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to interact effectively with diverse audiences.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently.
  • Proficiency in Google’s suite of programs (Sheets, Docs, etc.)
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.

Must be able to collect data at Mission Garden in person for approx. 2hrs/week while the garden is open. Open hours are 8am-12pm Wed-Sat during April-Oct and 8-2pm Wed-Sat during Nov-March.

Compensation: 

The intern will be compensated by the Arizona Institute for Resilience. The pay rate is $18/hour.
