Position Title: Outreach and Event Coordination Intern
Reports to: Brittany Guerrero and Cassandra Wensel Kanne
Hours/Week: 15 to 20 hours per week
Internship Date Range: May 19 to August 22
Location: Hybrid – in garden and work from home

About the Resilience Internships and Student Experiences (RISE) Program 

The RISE Program is hosted by the Arizona Institute for Resilience (AIR) and provides undergraduate and graduate students with paid internships related to resilient environments and societies. RISE internships give students experience in workplace settings with an opportunity to grow their interpersonal skills and prepare them for careers after graduation. 

About the Community Gardens of Tucson

Community Gardens of Tucson (CGT) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing local residents with the space, tools, and support to grow food, build community, and promote sustainable gardening practices throughout the Tucson area. CGT operates twenty community gardens and hosts educational and community-centered events.

Internship summary: 

The Outreach and Event Coordination Intern will assist Community Gardens of Tucson with community engagement and event planning efforts. The role will involve both administrative and creative tasks aimed at strengthening CGT’s presence and partnerships in the community.

Internship description: 

The intern will focus on outreach and event coordination, including the following responsibilities:

  • Assisting with leadership of the Outreach and Events Committee, including setting agendas, sending reminders, and taking meeting notes.
  • Helping to ensure that committee members understand their assigned action items and have everything they need. 
  • Supporting the promotion and marketing of upcoming events across multiple platforms including distributing flyers in public spaces, sending E blasts to internal network of volunteers and staff, newsletter content, and social media content. 
  • Designing flyers and creating social media graphics.
  • Coordinating volunteers and tabling materials for events.
  • Reaching out to potential partners and collaborators.
  • Helping ensure smooth logistics and communication surrounding CGT events.

Compensation: 

The intern will be hired and paid by the University of Arizona. The pay rate is $18/hour.

Credit Requirements: 

The intern will be hired as a U of A student employee. 

  • For internships during the academic year: applicants must be active U of A students enrolled in at least 6 credits.
  • For summer internships: applicants must either
    • Be enrolled in at least 3 credits during the summer

OR

  • Be enrolled in at least 6 credits the Spring semester before and at least 6 credits in the Fall semester after

Allowable Work Hours: 

  • During the semester, student employees are limited to 25 hours/week (20 hours/week for international students) across ALL U of A positions. 
  • During the summer, student employees are limited to 35 hours/week across ALL U of A positions.
