About the Resilience Internships and Student Experiences (RISE) Program 

The RISE Program is hosted by the Arizona Institute for Resilience (AIR) and provides undergraduate and graduate students with paid internships related to resilient environments and societies. RISE internships give students workplace setting experience with an opportunity to grow their core skills and prepare them for careers after graduation. 

About Tucson Clean & Beautiful (TCB)

TCB is a non-profit environmental advocacy and action organization founded in 1985 to preserve and improve our environment, conserve natural resources, and enhance quality of life in the City of Tucson and eastern Pima County. These goals are achieved through educational and hands-on programs emphasizing personal action in recycling and waste reduction, land stewardship, urban forestry and beautification. Originally established to keep our community litter-free, TCB has grown to coordinate programs and projects with a diversity of partners including government agencies, community groups, businesses, and the support of thousands of volunteers. Programs are supported by grants, memberships, business and personal donations, in-kind donations of materials and services.

Internship summary:

The NTP intern will assist in the preparation and facilitation of Saturday planting events in low canopy-coverage neighborhoods.

Internship description:

Responsibilities include assisting in:

  • Canvassing neighborhoods to deliver door hangers to eligible residences
  • Site visits to participating households to determine "right tree, right place" and prep the residents and their yard for AZ811 utility locators
  • Lead a small team of volunteers to plant trees at multiple households during our Saturday morning planting events

The intern will learn about correct tree care and planting practices, native tree ID, urban forestry, community engagement, and AZ811 utility locating standards.

Compensation: 

The intern will be hired and paid by the University of Arizona. The pay rate is $19/hour.

Credit Requirements: 

The intern will be hired as a U of A student employee. 

  • For internships during the academic year: applicants must be active U of A students enrolled in at least 6 credits.

Allowable Work Hours: 

  • During the semester, student employees are limited to 25 hours/week (20 hours/week for international students) across ALL U of A positions.
