The RISE Program is hosted by the Arizona Institute for Resilience (AIR) and provides undergraduate and graduate students with paid internships related to resilient environments and societies. RISE internships give students experience in workplace settings with an opportunity to grow their interpersonal skills and prepare them for careers after graduation.

The Lesbian Gay Bisexual Transgender Queer (LGBTQ+) Alliance Fund is a fund of CFSA that works to foster charitable giving in support of innovative programs and initiatives that benefit the LGBTQ+ community in Southern Arizona. Since 1999, the Alliance Fund has awarded $1,312,957 to 80 organizations.
Internship summary:
The LGBTQ+ Alliance Fund Needs Assessment Intern will provide critical support to the Community Foundation for Southern Arizona (CFSA) by conducting a comprehensive needs assessment of approximately 80 grantees affiliated with the LGBTQ Alliance Fund. This role includes collecting and analyzing data, engaging current grantees to gather stories and insights, and preparing findings that will inform the fund’s future strategic direction. Working closely with CFSA’s Community Impact Team, the intern will build relationships with nonprofit
partners, develop meaningful insights, and support efforts to amplify the voices of Southern Arizona’s LGBTQ+ community.
Internship description:
The Community Impact Assessment intern will work collaboratively with CFSA staff to:
- Conduct a detailed needs assessment of the LGBTQ Alliance Fund’s grantees, collecting quantitative and qualitative data.
- Engage with grantees to collect impactful stories that highlight the challenges, needs, successes, and opportunities within their work as well as ensure their perspectives and experiences are accurately captured and represented.
- Analyze collected data and identify key themes to support the fund’s strategic planning.
- Prepare reports and presentations that summarize findings and provide actionable recommendations for the fund’s growth and focus.
- Uphold the foundation’s commitment to Trust-based Philanthropy
Qualifications:
- Current undergraduate or graduate student at the University of Arizona, preferably in Public Administration, Nonprofit Management, Social Work, Sociology, or a related field.
- Strong interest in LGBTQ+ issues, nonprofit work, and community engagement.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to present findings effectively to diverse audiences.
- Experience or coursework in research, data collection, and analysis, and needs assessments.
- Comfort engaging with diverse community partners and navigating sensitive topics with cultural humility.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel and Word, with experience in data visualization tools as a plus.
- Strong organizational skills, detail oriented, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
Compensation:
The intern will be compensated by the University of Arizona. The pay rate is $18/hour.

Applicants must be active U of A students enrolled in at least 6 credits. The intern will be hired as a U of A student employee. Student employees are limited to 25 hours/week (20 hours/week for international students) across ALL U of A positions.
