I am excited to announce that the Bonar Lab is opening a paid internship position to work with native fish this summer!
MS student Regan Doss is conducting a stock assessment on Sonora and Desert suckers on the Salt and Verde Rivers in Arizona. We are obtaining this information through mark-recapture studies on these rivers with associated lab analysis of growth structures, gonadal development, and egg counts. The student(s) working on this project would participate in field surveys of the fishes of these two rivers (raft electrofishing and netting) with a university graduate student, a professor, and occasionally AZGFD personnel, and help with laboratory techniques. Spending the summer studying fish in these beautiful desert rivers, they would learn techniques to capture/survey fish populations, analyze fisheries data, meet state, federal, and university biologists, and help develop means to conserve rare desert fishes.
