Freshwater Mussel Research Internship

The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources Center for Aquatic Mollusk Programs (CAMP) is offering an exciting summer internship opportunity for students passionate about conservation and the environment. CAMP specializes in native freshwater mussel conservation, including the propagation of mussels and monitoring existing populations in Minnesota. Interns will work in the lab and field, learning about the importance of mussels in freshwater ecosystems, mussel propagation techniques, mussel and fish identification, and fieldwork practices.

Interns will participate in various activities, including soil and plant sampling, product testing, field scouting, and assisting with scuba diving operations for mussel monitoring. The program offers a great opportunity for hands-on learning in a growing field with a focus on conserving essential freshwater species.

  • Position: Paid internship ($19/hr, 40 hours/week, with overtime possible)
  • Location: Lake City, MN (housing not provided, but carpooling and rental recommendations available)
