AIR Communications Assistant – Spring 2026
Are you passionate about communicating science to broad, diverse audiences? Are you interested in learning about the intersections between research, community impact, government policy, and public understanding of science?
The Arizona Institute for Resilience (AIR), a research institute at the University of Arizona dedicated to developing solutions to global change to benefit environment and society, is seeking to hire a motivated communications assistant to help with digital storytelling for Spring 2026. The student will support communications and marketing efforts primarily through digital channels under the supervision of the AIR communications lead.
Activities will include:
- Brainstorm, pitch, and produce stories highlighting research activities at AIR
- Assist with drafting newsletters sharing AIR news, updates, and opportunities
- Develop social media strategy and content for the Institute’s social media accounts
- Facilitate collaborations with other university units’ social channels
- Provide support for AIR events, including photography and staffing
- Attend occasional AIR staff meetings as appropriate
- Keep up with routine administrative responsibilities, including email communication and weekly meetings with the supervisor
The student assistant will gain skills and experience in:
- Digital communications, scientific storytelling, and marketing
- Communication, organization, and team reporting in a professional environment
Qualifications
- Pursuing an undergraduate degree at the University of Arizona with a minimum of part-time enrollment
- Strong writing and communication skills
- Acute attention to detail and clear organization skills
- Strong independent work ethic and team collaboration skills
- Comfort with public speaking and networking
- Experience creating content for various social media platforms
- Experience creating informative video reels for social media platforms
- Demonstrated interest in science, environment, and/or sustainability
Time Commitment
This is a hybrid position that allows for remote work but will require regular in-person commitments. Work hours are flexible. Ideally, the student will have availability between 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. for direct engagement with the supervisor and other team members.
Compensation
$17.00/hour, 10-15 hours per week, Spring 2026
