Environmental Humanities in Common: April 25, 2026, Tumamoc Hill Library, 12:30-5:00 pm

What would a common law with nature look like? This problem and possibility is the focus of our second annual UofA-ASU environmental humanities and arts gathering.

We will frame the problem of the commons with visiting artist Jonathon Keats and his Common Law of Nature project on exhibit at Biosphere2. Afternoon sessions discuss “reading” nature, commonality and “commons.” Our panel discussion will feature responses by artists, writers, and scientists, including Ron Broglio, author of Animal Revolution, and Erika Lynne Hanson, an interdisciplinary artist whose work includes “Future Ecologies” and “Life on Mars" and Aresta Tsosie-Paddock, Assistant Professor in American Indian Studies at the University of Arizona, whose research areas include displacement and dispossession of cultural heritage, Navajo language, human rights practices, tribal government, and Federal Indian law and policy.

We invite participants and perspectives from all disciplines, and look forward to learning more about how these themes intersect with your own work!
